Sunrise and sunset Schwarzenbergjoch for the next 12 months

Every day of a year ahead. The times hold in four months just as they do today, because the sun needs no forecast. Daylight saving time is included.

How the times are calculated

For every direction, every half degree, the Copernicus terrain model gives how high the terrain rises above the horizon up to 250 kilometres away, with the earth's curvature and refraction. For each day Mostly then follows the sun minute by minute and finds the first and last moment its upper edge stands above that line. In summer the sun rises in the north-east, in winter in the south-east, so a different part of the skyline matters in each season. The times are for the summit at eye level.

What the times cannot do

Refraction just above the horizon varies with temperature and haze. Where the sun rises over a distant, flat horizon, such as from a summit across a plain, the real moment can be up to two minutes off the calculated one. Clouds, fog and haze are left out. And a few hundred metres from the town centre, a different ridge may stand in the way.

Common questions

When is sunrise on Schwarzenbergjoch today?

Today the sun clears the terrain at 08:02 and sets at 18:52. An almanac with a flat horizon gives 07:17 for the sunrise.

Why does the time differ from other sources?

The usual figures assume a flat horizon at sea level. From the summit you look down past that horizon and see the sun earlier. Mostly calculates with the actual terrain up to 250 kilometres away.

When is the longest day of sun in the next twelve months?

The sun stands above the terrain longest on June 19, 2027: 05:11 – 20:07, and shortest on December 21, 2026: 08:22 – 16:22.

Can I look up the time for a day a few months ahead?

Yes. The table above lists every day of the next twelve months. Sun times are arithmetic, not a forecast, so they hold in four months just as they do today.
