Controller

When you open the website

The server logs technical details of each request: time, path, status code and duration. The address is stored without its query string, because that is where the coordinates are — so the log cannot say which place someone asked about.

For error reporting Mostly sets a short-lived cookie called _dd_s. It groups the error messages of one visit and does not outlive it. It serves no audience measurement and no advertising.

Weather requests

To produce a forecast, the coordinates of your chosen place are sent to Open-Meteo. Computed forecasts are cached against coordinates rounded to three decimals — about 100 metres — so the same question does not leave the house every time.

When you open the source comparison, rounded coordinates additionally go to the Google Weather API. Google results are not stored on your device and not archived.

Place search

Your search text is sent to the search service to find matching places. It is not stored and not tied to a device.

Rain radar and map

The base map of the Mostly radar is loaded through the Google Map Tiles API. If you choose Windy instead, loading it opens a connection to Windy, and your chosen place and IP address are transmitted to that service. The app says so before the map loads.

Warnings and notifications

Official warnings come from GeoSphere Austria and the Deutscher Wetterdienst. Fetching them needs only the coordinates and stores nothing.

If you switch warning notifications on, Mostly additionally stores a device identifier from the push service and your chosen place, rounded to three decimals. That is the only thing Mostly stores about a person for any length of time, and only because you switched it on. Delivery runs through the Expo push service and Apple or Google. Switch the notifications off and both are deleted.

Advertising

The app may show advertising through Google AdMob while Mostly Pro is not active. Official warnings never carry advertising.

What the ad provider may process is your decision in the consent dialogue, and you can change it in the settings at any time. Mostly itself does not analyse your behaviour and passes no location data to the ad provider.

Mostly Pro

Purchases run through the App Store or Google Play. Payment details never reach Mostly; the stores only confirm that a valid purchase exists.

Error reports

If the app crashes or a request fails, an error report is sent to Datadog: the message, the technical trace, the device type and the system version. Coordinates in such a report are rounded to about 100 metres beforehand, and fields that look like credentials are replaced.

What is recorded is what broke — not which views you opened or what you tapped.

What Mostly does not do

No accounts, no names, no email addresses. No audience measurement and no behavioural analytics. No ad tracking by Mostly. No selling and no sharing of data for advertising. Your places, your notes and the last forecast you loaded stay on your device.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Consent can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.

Because Mostly keeps no accounts, a request can usually only be matched through the device identifier of the warning notifications; without those switched on there is normally no data that could be attributed to you.

The supervisory authority is the Austrian Data Protection Authority, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at.
